Rochester Chip is a monthly series of events dedicated to promoting artists and groups who use the sound chips of retro computers and video game consoles to create new original music. This exciting and often experimental form of electronic music repurposes devices such as Nintendo Gameboys and Atari 2600s as synthesizers and sequencers to create exciting new compositions in a wide array of genres.

PK is the solo effort of Jim Dewitt. When not laying down bass lines for revengineers, pk makes songs out of instruments, samples, and synthesizers. Think lush and dense jams to explore new worlds to.


SQUANTO is NY-based bedroom musician Ben Lovell. Armed with an acoustic guitar, a loop pedal, and a few tricks up his sleeve, Ben is constantly adding to his already impressive list of releases.

SBTHREE is Steven Boyar who makes weird music with his dad's saxophone and a gameboy he bought at a garage sale. Expect jazzy riffs, improvised solos, and jokes about cats. Once there were marshmallows.

NGB is a visualist, designer, and animator. His work focuses on a melding of the senses to create a 'synthesized synesthesia'. He has collaborated with international DJs/MCs, bands, composers, and dancers to create a dynamic and engrossing multi-sensual experience.

After the incredible turnout from our last open-mic, we're bringing it back!

Sign-ups for the open-mic will be available during the workshop at Pandaman from 7:00pm - 8:00pm.
Due to time constraints and 3 other bands performing, we are capping the sign-ups at 5 ARTISTS!
Sign-ups are first come, first serve, so get there early.

The open-mic will start at 8:30 at the Bug Jar.
Each artist is allowed ~5 minutes or 1 song.
Please keep setup within 3 minutes.

We will provide the following:
-mixer
-cords to plug Game Boy / instrument / audio into mixer
-1 or 2 stage microphones

A member of Rochester Chip will be on hand to assist with any setup / audio leveling / help.

"An Introduction to Ableton Live"

A free workshop @ Pandaman Toys ( 209 Monroe Avenue, about 20 feet from the Bug Jar ) starting promptly at 7:00pm.

PK ( Jim Dewitt ) hosts a workshop on using the Ableton Live software as an instrument / sequencer / sampler for live performance.

Following the workshop will be a video game tournament held at Pandaman. You know the drill!
